There is current evidence that Interleukin 6 (IL6), Tumour necrosis factor-alpha (TNFα), Interferon Gamma (IFNƔ), Interleukin 1 beta (IL1ß), Interleukin 22 (IL22), Interleukin 17 (IL17) and Natural Killer cells (NK), among other signalling pathways, play relevant roles in the pathogenesis of IBD, which is a reflection of the complexity of that physiological system [9–12]. The gene discussed is IL22; the disease is inflammatory bowel disease.
