Use of oral contraceptive pills has been shown to decrease risk of ovarian cancer in BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers without significantly increasing the risk of breast cancer [12] and risk-reducing bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy is highly protective reducing ovarian cancer and overall mortality by 80% and 60% respectively following surgery [13–15]. The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is breast carcinoma.
