Due to concerns of missed opportunities for referral, in September of 2010, our gynecologic tumor group in British Columbia initiated a province-wide ovarian cancer prevention initiative, which strongly emphasized the importance of referring HGSC patients for hereditary cancer counselling and index BRCA1 and BRCA2 genetic testing at BC’s coordinated site for publicly funded hereditary cancer genetic testing, the sole site of BRCA1 and BRCA 2 mutation testing in the province. This evidence concerns the gene BRCA1 and breast cancer.
