Of note, an impairment of striatal plasticity has been demonstrated in a number of different DYT1 models, including transgenic mice and rats overexpressing mutant torsinA (Martella et al., 2009; Grundmann et al., 2012), knock-in mice heterozygous for Δgag-torsinA (Dang et al., 2012; Martella et al., 2014; Rittiner et al., 2016), revealing an impressive similarity with studies of synaptic plasticity in human dystonia.
