CACNA1C has been strongly implicated in the aetiology of SCZ and BD, not only due to the genome-wide significant SCZ-associated SNPs in the introns of the gene (Hamshere et al., 2013; Psychiatric, 2011; Schizophrenia Working Group of the Psychiatric Genomics, 2014), but also in SCZ because it is a known target of MIR137 (Collins et al., 2014; Szulwach et al., 2010b).
