GLO1 and diabetes mellitus: Pathway annotation of L. rhinocerus genome–transcriptome to PlantCyc enzyme database enabled the identification of several interesting transcripts that are related to the biosynthesis of several types of terpenes and terpenoids including carotenoid and abscisic acid, as well as genes that code for glyoxalase I; the key enzyme in the anti-glycation, in addition to CAT-peroxidases and SODs that are able to reduce the oxidative damage in cells through the superoxide radical degradation pathway; suggesting a potential role of L. rhinocerus in diabetes management.
