Our present findings in human cells clearly demonstrate that neither eIF2A nor eIF2D are involved in protein synthesis directed by HCV IRES, and are in accord with a recent result demonstrating that knockdown of eIF2A or eIF2D in hepatoma cells has little effect on HCV IRES-driven translation (Jaafar et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene EIF2D and hepatocellular carcinoma.
