Within the Qatar Biobank 749 of 3,017 Qatari subjects were women aged 18–40 years, of whom 720 had data to allow assessment under the NIH Guidelines for PCOS, from which 87 of 720 women fulfilled those guidelines (12.1%) for PCOS using a free androgen index greater than 4.5 ((testosterone/SHBG) × 100), and menstrual irregularity. This evidence concerns the gene SHBG and polycystic ovary syndrome.
