KDM4A and cardiac hypertrophy: This family of proteins includes JMJD2A (Gray et al., 2005), the first discovered tri-demethylase specific for the lysine residues H3K9 and H3K36 (Huang et al., 2006; Klose et al., 2006); this protein has recently been shown to be involved in the development of cardiac hypertrophy in a murine model, presenting a possible relationship between the demethylation of H3K9me3 and this pathology (Zhang et al., 2011; Lizcano and Garcia, 2012).
