CD4 and adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma: About 3–5% of infected patients develop an aggressive neoplasm of mature CD4+ T-cells named adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma (ATLL) or a neurological disease named tropical spastic paraparesis/HTLV-associated myelopathy (TSP/HAM) after a latency period of decades (ATLL) or years (TSP/HAM).
