In tumor cells, missense mutations of the TP53 gene can inhibit p53 degradation (Lavin & Gueven, 2006; Frum & Grossman, 2014) where it can accumulate and act as an oncogene (Oren & Rotter, 2010), which could explain the resistance of TP53‐mutated cell lines to loss of E2/E3 ubiquitin ligases. The gene discussed is TP53; the disease is neoplasm.
