A study in Norway examined the association of vitamin K1 and 25(OH)D with an increased risk of hip fracture and whether bone turnover markers mediate the possible synergistic effect of these two micronutrients [42] and found that vitamin K1 and 25(OH)D are independently and synergistically associated with the risk of hip fracture and that this effect is possibly mediated through osteocalcin. The gene discussed is BGLAP; the disease is hip fracture.
