Ideally, miR-155-5p expression status could be combined with surrogate prognostic biomarkers in a multiparametric prognostic index with regard to this hematological malignancy, as the high prognostic significance of miR-155-5p overexpression is independent of clinical staging and other already established biomarkers (IGHV mutational status and CD38 expression) that are used to predict CLL patients' outcome. This evidence concerns the gene CD38 and B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia.
