Figure 6 shows the effect of a 48 h-treatment with DHA (Figure 6A) and LNA (Figure 6B) at the concentration of 50 μM, either in their free or RV-SLN encapsulated form. We used this concentration since it was the most efficacious in inhibiting CRC cell growth (Figure 4 and Figure 5). We found that the two FA, both in the free or encapsulated form were able to significantly (p < 0.05) induce caspase-3 activation (induction vs. control, 50 μM DHA: 65.6%; 50 μM LNA, 43.1%; 50 μM DHA-RV-SLN, 78%; 50 μM LNA-RV-SLN, 52.9%). Here, CASP3 is linked to colorectal carcinoma.
