Altered levels of MMP-2 (Gelatinase A) and MMP-9 (Gelatinase B), potentially contributing to disease pathogenesis, have been shown to be altered in several neurodegenerative diseases including AD (Lim et al., 2011; Hernandez-Guillamon et al., 2015; Chowdhury, 2016; Weekman and Wilcock, 2016), and ALS (Lim et al., 1996; Fang et al., 2010; Kaplan et al., 2014). The gene discussed is MMP9; the disease is neurodegenerative disease.
