For viral infections, a variety of global changes, of similar magnitude as seen here with A. phagocytophilum infection, also occur, but unlike for M. tuberculosis, there are only limited changes in expression or splicing patterns of splicing factors, except for the overexpression of an alternative transcript from the splicing regulator ESRP1 (Boudreault et al., 2016). This evidence concerns the gene ESRP1 and viral infectious disease.
