Assessment of BRCA1/2 gene mutation status from formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) tissue became a routine procedure for patients with high-grade serous ovarian cancer, as patients with evidence of such mutations are eligible for therapies including the PARP inhibitor olaparib (Hennessy et al. 2010; Mafficini et al. 2016; Moschetta et al. 2016; Muggia 2009; Oza et al. 2015). The gene discussed is BRCA1; the disease is ovarian serous adenocarcinoma.
