However, recent evidence suggests Pim kinases as important mediators of adipocyte differentiation, with Pim‐2 considerably expressed in adipocytes,19 and the expression of Pim‐1 in adipocytic neoplasm as a marker of adipocytic differentiation.20 We have recently shown that a pan‐Pim kinase inhibitor SGI‐1776 blocks adipogenesis in differentiating 3T3‐L1 cells by reducing the expression and/or phosphorylation levels of C/EBP‐α, PPAR‐γ, FAS and STAT‐3.21 Thus, inhibition of Pim kinases could be a novel therapeutic path against obesity.
