SIRT1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus: The authors of this study treated these cells with either metformin (a drug prescribed for T2D) or the SIRT1 activator resveratrol, both of which increased the expression of SIRT1 while reducing the expression levels of NFkB, Bax, and PARP, suggesting that the ROS‐induced PARP activation under the hyperglycemic condition was at least partially reduced by the expression of SIRT1.
