Among the known gene mutations associated with ALS, TAR DNA-binding protein (TARDPB) gene is related with neuronal density of mitochondria and cristae formation (Xu et al., 2010; Stribl et al., 2014), SOD1 is associated with oxidative stress, and CHCHD10 is involved in oxidative phosphorylation and the maintenance of mitochondrial cristae morphology (Bannwarth et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene SOD1 and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
