We further describe that the AKAP gene family is differently expressed in both primary and metastatic tumors and that basal-like tumors show an altered AKAP expression profile dividing the AKAPs in one highly expressed group; AKAP1, AKAP3, AKAP7, AKAP8 and one low group; AKAP5, AKAP9, AKAP10, AKAP11, AKAP12. Much of previously reported functions of these individual AKAPs points towards that this AKAP clusters indeed could reflect true metastatic potential. Here, AKAP11 is linked to metastatic neoplasm.
