Recently, it has been shown that human liver-type phosphofructokinase 1 (PFKL) forms cytoplasmic clusters in human cancer cells and further colocalizes with other cytoplasmic rate-limiting enzymes of the pathway, including human liver-type fructose-1,6-bisphosphatase (FBPase), pyruvate kinase M2 (PKM2), and phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase 1 (PEPCK1), thus indicating the formation of a multienzyme complex, namely the glucosome4. The gene discussed is PKM; the disease is cancer.
