This phenomenon provides a rationale for molecular targeted therapy, such as the BCR-ABL (breakpoint cluster region protein-Abelson murine leukemia viral oncogene homolog 1) fusion gene in chronic myelogenous leukemia, EGFR (epidermal growth factor receptor) mutations and ALK (anaplastic lymphoma kinase) fusion in non-small cell lung carcinoma [12, 13]. The gene discussed is EGFR; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
