Similar to cancer cells, which can alter their metabolism in aerobic glycolysis and production of lactate (so-called Warburg effect) macrophages in polyps increased the transcript levels of key glycolytic genes, such as ENO1, GAPDH, TPI1, PGAM and LDHA, with the F4/80hiMHCIIlow macrophages expressing the highest levels (Fig. 6c). The gene discussed is LDHA; the disease is cancer.
