These findings suggest that asbestos exposure causes chronic inflammation presented by an increase in the IL-6-producing potency of CD4+ T cells, although the occurrence of mesothelioma may alter the inflammatory profiles as revealed by the reduced IFN-γ-producing activity in MPM patients and the absence of significant increases in serum IL-6 levels in PP patients [30,31]. Here, IL6 is linked to mesothelioma.
