The SLNCR1/AR/Brn3a ternary complex has a high affinity for the AR and Brn3a binding sites located upstream of the MMP9 transcription start site, and the cooperative binding of AR and Brn3a to its promoter increases MMP9 expression and activity and, thus, increases the invasion of melanoma cells (Figure 2E).
