Peripherally, sCT binds to calcitonin receptors on bone osteoclasts (Chesnut et al. 2008; Nicholson et al. 1986) and the kidney (Marx, Woodard, & Aurbach 1972), and it has been used for the treatment of bone metabolic diseases that involve these receptors, for example, osteoporosis (Munoz‐Torres, Alonso, & Raya 2004). This evidence concerns the gene CALCR and osteoporosis.
