The cytochrome c oxidase II (COX2) is a pro-inflammatory gene that shows two complementary sequences for the miR-589 on its promoter: by using an anti-miR-589-5p in lung cancer cells, a reduction of the basal expression of COX2 was observed, while enforced expression of miR-589 results in an increased COX2 protein level [260]. The gene discussed is MT-CO2; the disease is lung carcinoma.
