Since the year 1995 when a preliminary report on galectin-3 and thyroid cancer was published [32], despite a great variance in the methodology used, more than 300 papers published in the English literature confirmed the restricted expression of galectin-3 in thyroid cancer, compared to normal and benign thyroid conditions [33,34,35,36,37,38,39,40,41]. The gene discussed is LGALS3; the disease is thyroid cancer.
