McCarron et al showed that the ApoE∗E4 allele increases the risk of stroke.[31] The ApoE allele has also been shown to predict functional outcome in survivors of traumatic brain injury.[32–34] Alberts et al[35] demonstrated that patients who survive intracerebral hemorrhage and who carry the ApoE∗E4 allele have poorer outcomes than patients who do not have the E4 allele.
