The intraperitoneal injection of rats with alloxan monohydrate significantly increases the blood glucose due to destruction of insulin producing organ (beta cells of pancreas), thereby causing hyperglycemia (Figure 1), in the absence of insulin, the tissues (adipose tissue, etc.)are unable to use glucose (Sharma, Kumar, Patel, & Hugar, 2010).
