Protein–protein interaction network analysis identified several interacted hub genes (protein), e. g. KCNJ11, PPARG, ABCC8, THADA, WFS1, TCF7L2, and ADCY5. Most of them have been reported to be associated with the pathogenesis of T2D or T2D-related metabolic pathways, e. g. gene WFS1 is involved in the energy reserve metabolic process, glucose homeostasis and negative regulation of pancreatic β cells apoptotic process [69]. Here, TCF7L2 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
