Very similar to the processes described above, status epilepticus (SE) induction leads to reduced b-AP attenuation in CA1 pyramidal neurons due to a reduction in total Kv4.2 protein and Kv4.2 mRNA, and the remaining Kv4.2 channels were found to be strongly phosphorylated by extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK), presumably downstream of PKA and/or PKC activation [4, 8, 61].
