p-16 protein expression is a biomarker for HPV infection, and it also indicated better prognosis in oropharyngeal HNSCC.[14] However, the role of HPV infection, and the HPV infection correlation with p-16 expression in HNSCCs apart from OPSCC are still not clearly defined.[15,16] Previous studies have revealed that p-16 expression may correlated with PD-L1 expression in nonoropharyngeal HNSCC. The gene discussed is CD274; the disease is head and neck squamous cell carcinoma.
