The majority of the world's population has deficiency of lactase activity in adulthood(Mattar et al., 2012).Lactase non-persistence after infancy results from a genetically determined conditionknown as adult-type hypolactasia (ATH), which is the main cause of lactose intolerance(Misselwitz et al., 2013).Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) located upstream of the lactase gene areassociated with ATH (Enattah et al.,2002). Here, LCT is linked to lactose intolerance.
