HMGA2 and cancer: It has been described that the comparison of gene expression patterns between embryonic stem cells (ESC) and cancer cells reveals shared features [28]; and different types of tumors have shown an increase in ESC markers (such as HMGA2 (High-mobility group AT-hook 2), KLF4 (Kruppel Like Factor 4), NOTCH1) that play a role in pluripotency, self-renewal and tumorigenic effects [29–32].
