Upregulation of MMPs in CRC tissue samples has been reported often [41, 42], and the over expression of MMP-1, MMP-2, MMP-3, MMP-7, MMP-9, and MMP-13 has been associated with worse outcome and poor overall survival, which is an indication that MMPs could be potential targets for the treatment of CRC [22, 23, 43]. The gene discussed is MMP9; the disease is colorectal carcinoma.
