LGALS3 and neoplasm: Furthermore, GAL-3 might also be secreted by tumor cells to sustain the microenvironment they favor, which subsequently helps them to escape from immune surveillance in two ways: (1) by inhibiting the afferent arm of the immune system, preventing the body from increasing the number of T cells in response to the tumor, and (2) by inhibiting the efferent arm, which is used to attack the tumors [22,25,26].
