ART4 and Duchenne muscular dystrophy: Compounds with a dual action as use-dependent blockers and anti-oxidants may have an interesting therapeutic action in degenerating myopathies in which the alteration of excitation-contraction coupling is accompanied by chronic inflammatory state and unbalanced oxidative stress, such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) (De Luca et al., 2008; Burdi et al., 2009), caused by defects in the subsarcolemmal protein dystrophin, a component of the dystrophin-glycoprotein complex (DGC) (De Luca et al., 2012).
