When these data are taken into consideration with the changes in peripheral CRF1 and lower serum CORT concentrations, we conclude that the NMS male mice may present with hypocortisolism, which has also been observed in children who were exposed to severe deprivation, neglect, or abuse (Gunnar and Quevedo, 2008; Lupien et al., 2009). The gene discussed is CORT; the disease is adrenocortical insufficiency.
