Mutations in SHANK2 and SHANK3 are highly associated with monogenetic forms of autism (Grabrucker et al., 2011b; Betancur and Buxbaum, 2013; Guilmatre et al., 2014; Leblond et al., 2014) and PZD mice show behavioral alterations similar to SHANK mice modeling ASD by gene knockout. This evidence concerns the gene SHANK2 and autism.
