NFKB1 and esophageal adenocarcinoma: It has been reported in four previous studies on gastric adenocarcinoma cell lines that omega-3 PUFAs (mainly EPA and DHA) present in fish oil are associated with anti-proliferative effects [8, 10–12], the cellular mechanisms accounting for these effects included modulation of p53 dependent [13] and independent pathways, suppression of nuclear factor Kappa-light chain enhancer of activated B cells (NF-kB) [14], down regulation of Bcl-2 expression [12] and inhibition of cyclo-oxygenase-2 (Cox-2) [14], but the literature lacks similar evidence in oesophageal adenocarcinoma cell lines [4].
