The results showed that the levels of MAEL mRNA in gastric cancer (GC) (GEO: GSE27342 [17]), glioblastoma (GEO: GSE4536 [18]), invasive breast cancer (GEO: GSE9014 [19]) and lung adenocarcinoma (GEO: GSE31210 [20]) were significantly higher than their corresponding normal tissues (fold change ≥2, p-value < 0.01) (Figure 1A and Supplementary Figure 1A–1C) and that MAEL ranked in the top 6%, 10%, 16% and 20% of overexpressed genes in gastric, brain, breast and lung cancers, respectively. Here, MAEL is linked to lung cancer.
