Two phenotypically distinct populations of melanoma cells were described related to MITF levels: High‐MITF population is associated with differentiation and proliferation, whereas low‐MITF cells, although they proliferate slowly, are endowed with the invasive and EMT‐like characteristics 14, and they express pro‐oncogenic genes such as Brn2 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, GLI2 20, JARID1B 21, Axl 22 and others. This evidence concerns the gene MITF and melanoma.
