The Expert Panel identified four groups of high risk women who could benefit from MRI and DM screening: women with a deleterious mutation in BRCA1, BRCA2, or other gene(s) predisposing to a markedly elevated breast cancer risk; untested first‐degree relatives of a gene mutation carrier; women with a family history consistent with hereditary breast cancer syndrome and estimated personal lifetime breast cancer risk ≥25%; and women who had radiation therapy to the chest (before age 30 and at least 8 years previously). This evidence concerns the gene BRCA1 and breast cancer.
