Linear regression analyses found that baseline HbA1c levels were significantly associated with global cognitive, memory and executive function z scores after adjustment for age and sex, but these associations lost significance after further adjustment for total cholesterol, HDL-cholesterol, triacylglycerol, high-sensitivity CRP, BMI, education, marital status, depressive symptoms, current smoking, alcohol consumption, hypertension, CHD, stroke, chronic lung disease and cancer (ESM Table 1).
