CCR5 and infection: Taken together, our results indicate that the Ext-Ts treatment decreases serum lipids, limiting the growth of the PbA parasite in the initial phase of infection and consequently reducing the expression of IFN-γ, ICAM-1, CCR5 and (despite not statistically significant) VCAM-1 in the brain, preserving blood brain barrier integrity and avoiding ECM development (Fig. 9).
