Maternal CRP (P = 0.000016) and white cell count (WCC) (P = 0.0016, Mann–Whitney U) (Fig. 4g,h) were elevated in patients with chorioamnionitis with funisitis and both were significantly correlated with vaginal bacterial alpha diversity (WCC; rho = 0.54, P = 0.0001 and CRP; rho = 0.45, P = 0.0013) (Fig. 4i,j). The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is chorioamnionitis.
