GJB6 and hypertensive disorder: The change in the number and/or function of MEGJs does not seem to be a major contributing factor to impaired EDH-mediated responses during hypertension: first, because previous studies did not observe a positive correlation between EDH-mediated responses and the number of MEGJs in arteries of SHR [43,44]; second, smooth muscle hyperpolarization to 1-EBIO, an endothelial IKCa channel activator [45], was not altered in mesenteric arteries of SHR, indicating that electrical propagation from endothelial cells to smooth muscle cells via MEGJs is preserved during hypertension [44,46].
