In the healthy control subjects we also tested for association of CD86 expression in B cells and monocytes with rs1920296 and rs2255214, two other SNPs mapping close to rs9282641 and showing independent association with multiple sclerosis (The International Multiple Sclerosis Genetics Consortium and The Wellcome Trust Case Control Consortium 2, 2011; The International Multiple Sclerosis Genetics Consortium, 2013). This evidence concerns the gene CD86 and multiple sclerosis.
