CRP and chronic kidney disease: Compared with first quartile (Q1) of RDW, patients in Q4 were more likely to be older (Q1 versus Q4, age 58 versus 65 years, P < 0.001), female (48% versus 57%, P < 0.001), and African Americans (13% versus 42%, P < 0.001), have had history of stroke (6% versus 15%, P < 0.001), MI (6% versus 20%, P < 0.001), and HF (3.8% versus 21%, P < 0.001), and have CKD (13% versus 35%, P < 0.001), albuminuria (median ACR 0.12 versus 0.25, P < 0.001), and higher c-reactive protein (0.24 versus 0.45 mg/dL, P < 0.001), but there was no difference in the prevalence of retinopathy (P = 0.77) (Table 1).
